ISASP Test Taking
Strategies and Reminders
The first thing that I would like for you to do is read through the following test taking strategies.
- Make sure to place your post-it note in a way that will make sure you are filling in the correct set of bubbles.
- Don't spend to much time on one problem. If you are unsure, make your best educated guess, fill in the bubble that corresponds, write the number of the problem on your post-it note so you can come back to it if there is time.
- Make sure you are answering the question that the problem is asking. (ex: You might need to find a side of a figure before you can find the perimeter. One of the answers might be the length of just that one side but don't forget that perimeter is adding up all the side lengths.)
- If the test allows you to use a calculator then use it! However I would suggest only typing in one operation at a time so you can make sure you are following the order of operations.
- Make sure to pay attention to details when you are picking an answer from multiple choice options.
- Go back and reread the question to Make sure your answer is truly answering the question. (ex. Maybe you found the value of x but what is was really asking you to do was once you found the value of x was to plug it back into the expression to find the longest one.)
- Please make sure you are aware of the amount of time you have left when testing because it is very important that you answer every question. If you don't have time to get to every question, still make sure to make an educated guess and fill in a bubble. If you leave a question blank you will miss it for sure, so taking a guess is better than nothing.
- Make sure to use the entire testing period. If you finish before the testing time is up, go back and try any of the problem numbers that you wrote on your post-it note that you had to take an educated guess on or double check any of your other answers. You should not close your test booklet until I say that time is up.
- These test scores are very important to our school and should be just as important to you. we ask that you take these tests seriously and that you give your very best effort! That way no matter what the outcome you can be proud of yourself and our school.
- Believe in yourself and that you are going to do great because I do!! You have all worked so hard this year and have grown in your mathematical abilities. I am excited to see just how much.
