To Do April 8th
I know that yesterday some people left feeling very stressed. I did not mean for that to happen. I just wanted to give you a chance to see a different way to find the solution to these types of problems and a different way to find the vertex of a parabola by rewriting the equation in vertex form. You will not be asked to find the vertex or rewrite an equation in vertex form on this upcoming test, however you can use this when it comes to finding the vertex of a parabola on the trimester final. Today I would like for you to complete the following three tasks which focus on completing the square and the other methods we have discussed in class to find the roots/zeros/solutions to an quadratic equation:
1. Fill out the graphic organizer and glue it into your math notebook

Today I would like for you to watch the following videos and take notes along the way. Please make sure you watch them in the order for which I have and that you watch all of them. They might seem similar but each of them have a little different twist. You will be learning about completing the square which is a different way to find the roots/zeros/solutions of a quadratic function as well as how to convert the standard form of Quadratic to vertex form.

To Do March 15th
The first thing that I would like for you to do is read through the following test taking strategies.
Make sure to place your postit note in a way that will make sure you are filling in the correct set of bubbles.
Don't spend to much time on one problem. If you are unsure, make your best educated guess, fill in the bubble that corresponds, write the number of the problem on your postit note so you can come back to it if there is time.
Make sure you are answering the question that the problem is asking. (ex: You might need to find a side of a figure before you can find the perimeter. One of the answers might be the length of just that one side but don't forget that perimeter is adding up all the side lengths.)
If the test allows you to use a calculator then use it! However I would suggest only typing in one operation at a time so you can make sure you are following the order of operations.
Make sure to pay attention to details when you are picking an answer from multiple choice options.
Please make sure you are aware of the amount of time you have left when testing because it is very important that you answer every question. If you don't have time to get to every question, still make sure to make an educated guess and fill in a bubble. If you leave a question blank you will miss it for sure, so taking a guess is better than nothing.
Make sure to use the entire testing period. If you finish before the testing time is up, go back and try any of the problem numbers that you wrote on your postit note that you had to take an educated guess on or double check any of your other answers. You should not close your test booklet until I say that time is up.
Believe in yourself and that you are going to do great because I do!! You have all worked so hard this year and have grown in your mathematical abilities. I am excited to see just how much.
To Do march 11th

Please take a minute and look over the new daily lunch procedures located below.
Daily Lunch Procedures: What this looks like in action
 To the cafeteria:

Once you are finished with that I would like you to work on graphing the following problems. Please keep this paper in your math notebook and bring it with you to class on Jan. 4th. Feeling confident in your graphing ability of systems will be very important in our next unit.

To Do October 27th
Important: If you did not submit a progress check yesterday you need to came talk to me sometime today and let me know why. The rule has been on all but one that you needed to have it accomplished by the end of the class and if not then you needed to come in for lunch or stay after school. There is a handful of people who did not submit a progress check.
Today I would like you to work independently so that you can get a good feel of where you are at in your learning before the test tomorrow. Below are the focus and big ideas of the unit along with the "I Can" statements.
Focus/Big Ideas:
How can you use tables, graphs and equations to find patterns and make predictions?
I can statements:
I can mathematically represent a situation using a table, graph and equation.
I can mathematically maneuver between the different representations
To Do List:
1. Work on the Study guide for the test tomorrow
2. Look over your notes and Progress checks
3. Come up with a list of questions you would like for me to go over before the test
*Make sure you bring both of your Chapter 4 progress checks and study guide with your tomorrow to class.

Follow up Questions
Why did you pick this situation to work through?
Why did you pick the numbers you did in your table?
What label did you put on the x and y axes?
What increments did you go by in the x direction?
What increments did you go by in the y direction?
Did you connect your dots with a line or leave them as just dots?
Why did you decided what you did in questions #6?
Does the situation represent a function? Why or why not?
Does the situation represent a linear equation? If so, how can you tell by looking at the equation, table and graph?

Are you intested in Participating in mathcounts?
Mathcounts Is a nationwide middle school mathematics competition held in various places in the United States. The competition is made up of three individual rounds and one team round.
The four rounds of a MATHCOUNTS competition, each described below:
We will have a school competition to determine the top 10 students that then will move on to the regional competition held here in Council Bluffs. If the team or an individual scores high enough you can then advance to the state competition which is held in Des Moines at Drake University.
Please complete the form below to let me know if you would or would not be interested. If you say yes please go to my mathcounts website (http://lcmsmathcounts.weebly.com/) and create a free account of the interactive mathCounts platform which is located on the resource page.
Mathcounts Is a nationwide middle school mathematics competition held in various places in the United States. The competition is made up of three individual rounds and one team round.
The four rounds of a MATHCOUNTS competition, each described below:
TARGET ROUND (approximately 30 minutes): In this round eight problems are presented to competitors in four pairs (six minutes per pair). The multistep problems featured in this round engage Mathletes in mathematical reasoning and problemsolving processes. Problems assume the use of calculators.
SPRINT ROUND (40 minutes): Consisting of 30 problems, this round tests accuracy, with the time period allowing only the most capable students to complete all of the problems. Calculators are not permitted.
TEAM ROUND (20 minutes): In this round, interaction among team members is permitted and encouraged as they work together to solve 10 problems. Problems assume the use of calculators.
COUNTDOWN ROUND: A fastpaced oral competition for topscoring individuals (based on scores on the Target and Sprint Rounds), this round allows pairs of Mathletes to compete against each other and the clockto solve problems. Calculators are not permitted.
We will have a school competition to determine the top 10 students that then will move on to the regional competition held here in Council Bluffs. If the team or an individual scores high enough you can then advance to the state competition which is held in Des Moines at Drake University.
